Farkhat Sharipov was born on 4 December 1983 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He has degrees from the Kazakh National Academy of Arts and the New York Film Academy. His debut feature film, The Tale of a Pink Bunny (2010), was a box-office hit in Kazakhstan. He made several genre films and, with The Secret of a Leader (2018), began to explore deep-rooted social problems in Kazakh society through his films. Synopsis
Beibut and his best friends are Almaty musicians. Getting used to his new role as a young dad, Beibut must consider giving up on his dreams and think about his responsibilities. Barely making ends meet, the young band raise enough money to make a music video, which goes straight to the top of the charts. Following the video, Beibut′s first love, Julia, calls. She has a connection at a leading music label. A big producer offers him a lucrative contract and a job abroad. Beibut′s dreams are about to come true. However, it will mean leaving his family and friends; the things he values most in life. A choice must be made, right here and now.
