Director’s Profile

After having his first animated feature The King of Pigs (2011) invited to Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes Film Festival and San Sebastian International Film Festival, Yeon Sang Ho became a renowned animation director and has received recognition worldwide with his second animated feature The Fake (2013) which won The Best Animated Feature Film at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and Grand Prix Feature Film at Holland Animation Film Festival. Yeon is currently in production for his next feature animation Seoul Station (2015) and is developing two live action films Train via Busan (working title) (2015) and The Family Ground (2016), encompassing both animation and live action.

Synopsis

While a construction firm, eager to build a road connecting two resorts, begins under-the-table works in order to purchase the land that is used as the Choi family’s gravesite, an old man in the Choi family who had been the caretaker of the family grounds suddenly passes away. The old man had stubbornly been refusing to sell the family gravesite that was used for three generations. With his death confirmed as murder, great attention is brought as to who will take over his responsibilities for the gravesite.

And despite the long-distanced relationship between the paternal relatives, Jongho inherits the gravesite for being the eldest son. The sudden family responsibility as the eldest son, fights between the relatives over the interests to the gravesite, a discovery of having a half-brother, and the murder case that is still being investigated, are all overwhelming for Jongho who had been living an ordinary life.
Then, his wife who had been demanding a divorce suddenly changes her attitude, the newfound half-brother frequently drops in at his home with violent threats, the construction company and the village neighbors expects him to sell the family ground for their profit. Amid them all, Jongho becomes anxious and in fear of his own life. Moreover, the police informs him that he may have more siblings that he had not been aware of, forcing him to lose trust in everyone.
