Director’s Profile

Bikas Ranjan Mishra’s short film, Dance of Ganesha (2011), premiered at Busan International Film Festival 2011, and his debut feature, Chauranga (2014), won India Gold at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2014. He received the Hubert Bals Fund 2024 for his current project, Bayaan (The Testimony), which was developed at Film Independent’s Global Media Makers LA Residency 2019, and was mentored by Craig Mazin, creator of HBO′s Chernobyl (2019).

Synopsis

Roohi′s father is her hero. Following in his footsteps, she joins the country′s premier investigative agency and is assigned her first case, which takes her to the countryside, where a powerful cult leader is accused of abusing his female followers. However, no one is ready to speak up against the man because their families are beneficiaries of his charity. Roohi has an impossible task ahead of her; if she fails to record at least one testimony, the case will be closed, and the predator will continue to exploit women. However, if women speak up, they will be abandoned by their families and possibly even killed.
