Calling for projects to participate in Asian Project Market (APM) 2022

Starting to receive submissions of new projects by Korean and Asian directors!

APM 2022 opening the online application until June 15 (Wed)

APM, which began as Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP) in 1998, is a project market for Korean and Asian feature films. From commercial films to low-budget independent films, APM has discovered unique and fresh new projects, searched for global investment, production, and distribution companies, and offered meetings for seeking co-production.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, APM has held online meetings for the past two years. In 2021, however, APM operated the first hybrid event in its history by holding on-site events restricted to domestic participants. Furthermore, APM addressed the requests by filmmakers in need of networking by dramatically improving the online market's system while coming up with a window for face-to-face business. As a result, APM successfully made 515 meetings happen with the participation of 91 companies and 100 participants last year, fulfilling its role as the largest investment and co-production market in Asia.

APM has selected a total of 632 projects for the past 24 years, completing about 270 films, many of which were invited to globally renowned film festivals including the Busan International Film Festival. Before, Now & Then (dir. Kamila Andini, APM 2021), which won the CJ ENM Award at the Asian Project Market 2021 Awards, was invited to the Competition section at the Berlin International Film Festival, and Silver Bird and Rainbow Fish (dir. Lei Lei, APM 2016) was selected for the Tiger Competition section at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Ingmar Bergman Competition section at the Göteborg Film Festival.

Furthermore, Rehana (dir. Abdullah Mohammad Saad, APM 2018 participant), which made the Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival 2021 was officially selected at the Busan International Film Festival of that year. And Anatomy of Time (dir. Jakrawal Nilthamrong, APM 2018) made the Orizzonti competition section at the Venice Film Festival 2021, drawing global attention.

Other than this, many Korean films including Three Sisters (dir. Lee Seung-won, 2020), Moonlit Winter (dir. Lim Dae-hyung, 2019), The House of Us (dir. Yoon Ga-eun, 2019), A French Woman (dir. Kim Hee-jung, 2019), Illang: The Wolf Brigade (dir. Kim Jee-woon, 2018), Herstory (Min Kyu-dong) have been completed and released domestically.

This year's APM is accepting submissions of projects until June 15. What differs from the past is that this year, APM is only accepting submissions of projects whose director and producer has been determined to enhance the practicality of the meetings. APM requires a directing experience of at least one short or feature film for the director, and a producing experience of at least one feature film for the producer.

More details on applications can be found on APM's official website (apm.biff.kr), and the APM projects selected for 2022 can be met in Busan for three days from October 9 (Sun) to 11 (Tue).
